Do you have a bonus room in your home that is not living up to its potential? Sometimes we just need a little inspiration to create a space that will not only be used by the family but will also be one of your favorite spots in the entire home.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
Movie Room
Who doesn’t love a good movie night? Transforming your bonus room into a movie theater can be done in just a few steps. We would install a large screen, sound system, comfortable chairs, and dimmable lights.
We would also install acoustic flooring and soundproof the walls so that your loud movie doesn’t disrupt anyone in the other parts of your home. It’s also fun to decorate with vintage Hollywood memorabilia or movie posters from films you enjoy.
Play Room
If you have young kids, you know how quickly their toys can take over your home. If you use your bonus room as a designated playroom, it helps out with that problem.
Depending on the ages of your kids, you could set up different stations for different activities to make the space more organized. We would also install plenty of storage so that the toys could be hidden away once your kids are done playing.
Since kids don’t stay little for long, playrooms can easily be converted into a different type of space, like a movie room or game room, once the kids outgrow their playroom.
Game Room
If the home’s grown-ups enjoy their own toys and games, why not use your bonus space as a game room? Game rooms can include:

- A pool table
- A foosball table
- A poker table
- Anything else you think would be fun
If you plan on using this as an entertainment space, you may also want to install a bar with a fridge to keep your favorite beverages and snacks nearby.
Guest Suite
If you have a lot of family or friends who like to stay over at your home, a guest suite may be a more practical use for your bonus room. Depending on the size of the space, we could build a bathroom and bedroom, allowing your guests to have privacy while they stay at your home.
Library
If you think there is no better way to pass the time than by reading a good book, use your bonus room as a library. We could install floor-to-ceiling bookshelves where all of your books can be displayed. You’ll also want a comfy lounge area, preferably next to a large window, where you can relax in your PJs and get lost in a good book.
